I know well all of the local places that you mentioned in and around Stratford on Avon. If you didn’t have first hand knowledge of this area you certainly conjured up very accurate descriptions of my home town. So as to make me feel quite homesick as I now live in Spain.
I look forward to reading further adventures of Christopher Tyburn MARIONhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00386987476060548989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2031049281618463103.post-60886749171603335832017-09-09T22:01:50.795-04:002017-09-09T22:01:50.795-04:00Thanks for the great photos, Dean. I live in Australia, so was raised on a diet of American westerns on TV. What a surprise it was to go to California and Arizona and see the real thing right there in front of me. Cacti, old west theme parks, real old west places, I smiled the entire time, and we were there for three weeks. Marry England still living in the people hearts - demons and withes are inside Kings head still (+/-). (Closing down the Playhouses will be one of a red flags in my mind). I do not want to argue my knowledge is so tinny I just want to say that nothing in this sad world is not like 2+2 equals 4, on the contrary, in history darkest night we could be happy and in fall love for instance (with drama). Historical romance uses history in the same way historical SFF uses history, or how historical mystery uses history--within its genre conventions. Meaning, historical romance uses history as seasoning for the romance as opposed to the main ingredient in the pot, and even then there is a wide variation in how each individual author chooses to use history.

And I'd also push back against the rose-colored glasses view that historical fiction gives you an immersive experience, transportation to the past. Whose past? What past? Because you can pick up a book on one particular historical setting or historical personages, written across decades, and find the history contradicts itself based on author focus or agenda, access to resources, and audience tastes. Gone With the Wind is the biggest example of an author successfully transporting readers to the past and giving an immersive experience...in a completely biased and historically inaccurate fashion. Yet, the great success of this book and its convincing immersive experience has convinced millions of readers across the globe, that this is a genuine portrait of the South during the antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction eras for over seventy years.
